THE FOREST GOES SILENT…
The ancient shrine pulses with green light. Every Pokémon freezes. Then, from somewhere deep beneath the forest… THUD.
THE BLUE LIGHT PATH
The blue light drifts deeper into Viridian Forest. It never moves like a flame. It seems to be leading you somewhere.
Something Has Been Here
You find tracks unlike any Pokémon you recognise. Beside them is the same ancient symbol carved into the shrine relic.
Something Answers
A pair of glowing eyes appears between the trees. It does not attack. It watches your group… and then disappears.
The Relic Responds
The symbol glows blue. For a moment, a second mark appears beside the first. Whatever the relic is, it may require more than one key.
You Found Something
Behind a loose section of bark is a tiny compartment containing a scrap of Team Eclipse research. Someone else has been investigating this forest.
The Watcher Steps Forward
A mysterious Pokémon emerges from the shadows. It is frightened rather than aggressive. It looks directly at the relic and then toward the shrine.
THE TEAM ECLIPSE CAMP
You return to the damaged camp. Papers are scattered everywhere. One page is stamped with a warning: THE CHAMBER MUST NOT BE OPENED BEFORE THE THIRD KEY.
The Three Keys
The notes reveal three keys were created to control an ancient chamber beneath Viridian Forest. Team Eclipse doesn't know where all three are.
Someone Is Watching
The tracks lead away from the camp toward the shrine. They are fresh. Someone was here only moments ago.
“You Don't Understand!”
A Team Eclipse scout steps from the shadows. Instead of attacking immediately, he raises his hands. “We're not trying to awaken it. We're trying to stop it.”
Something Beneath the Forest
The scout reveals that the shrine is only the entrance. Whatever is beneath it has been sealed for generations. “If you open it, the forest will never be the same.”
The First Key
During the confrontation, the scout drops an ancient key. It matches the markings on the shrine relic.
A Staircase Beneath the Shrine
The map confirms it: an ancient staircase lies directly beneath the shrine.
BENEATH THE SHRINE
You inspect the stone beneath the ancient shrine. A crack has appeared where there was none before. Cold air rises from below.
The Stone Opens
The relic glows. Three symbols appear: LEAF • FLAME • WATER. The stone floor shifts.
Down Into Darkness
You discover a staircase hidden beneath the shrine. Ancient carvings cover the walls.
The Ancient Chamber
Three doors stand before you. One bears a leaf. One bears a flame. One bears a water symbol. The relic pulses in your hand.
The Guardian Legend
Ancient drawings reveal a guardian Pokémon was sealed beneath the forest to protect the balance of Kanto. The keys were never meant to be collected by one person.
The Chamber Trembles
As you lift the second key, the entire chamber shakes. A deep growl echoes from behind the guardian door.
THE FOREST GUARDIAN
The ancient door opens. A powerful Pokémon steps forward. Green energy fills the chamber. It does not attack… yet.
A Choice of Trust
The guardian studies the trainers and their Pokémon. The relic glows between you. For one moment, the ancient Pokémon seems to recognise the bond between trainer and Pokémon.
THE AWAKENING
The forest changes. The first key and second key glow together. Somewhere far above, Team Eclipse watches from the trees. Whatever lies beneath Viridian Forest has awakened.
THE FOREST REMEMBERS
The blue light leads you into a perfect circle of ancient trees. Every leaf is still. Your Pokémon react before you do — some become curious, others afraid.
At the centre is a stone covered in hundreds of tiny Pokémon footprints.
THE FRIGHTENED POKÉMON
A group of wild Pokémon bursts from the undergrowth. They aren't attacking you. They are running from something deeper in the forest.
THE FOREST TESTS YOU
The wild Pokémon slowly calm down. One approaches the trainer whose Pokémon showed the most compassion and drops a glowing blue leaf at their feet.
DM: Award a Bond Point for a genuinely compassionate choice.
SOMETHING IS STALKING THE FOREST
Deep claw marks cover an ancient tree. Whatever made them was powerful enough to frighten several wild Pokémon away.
THE SHADOW IN THE TREES
A wild Pokémon emerges with green energy flickering around its body. It attacks wildly, as if something is controlling it.
DM: Run a normal encounter. When it reaches low HP, the green energy breaks and the Pokémon becomes frightened rather than defeated.
A VISION OF THE PAST
The blue light touches the trainer's hand. Everyone sees Viridian Forest hundreds of years ago. Three guardians stand around the shrine. Three keys glow in their hands.
Then one guardian disappears. The shrine is sealed. A voice says: “When the third key returns, the guardian will wake.”
PROFESSOR VANE'S JOURNAL
Among the papers is an old journal belonging to Professor Vane. His notes reveal Team Eclipse has been divided for years over what lies beneath the forest.
DM SECRET: Vane believed the guardian was protecting something rather than destroying it.
“WE WERE TOO LATE.”
The scout finally gives you his name: Riven. Team Eclipse entered the forest because their leader believed the ancient chamber contained a Pokémon capable of changing the balance of Kanto.
Riven says his orders were to find the keys — but never open the chamber.
RIVEN MAKES A DEAL
Riven warns you: “If the guardian asks you a question, don't lie.” He hands over a damaged Team Eclipse badge.
REWARD: Eclipse Badge Fragment. This may identify you to certain Team Eclipse members later.
THE LIVING STONE
The staircase opens into a chamber where enormous roots pulse through the walls like veins. At the centre is a circular platform with three empty key slots.
“WHAT GROWS WITHOUT SUNLIGHT?”
A voice echoes from the chamber. Three symbols appear: a seed, a flame and a river.
DM: Reward creative answers. A story, secret, friendship or Pokémon bond can all work if the players explain why.
THE RELIC WAKES
The relic floats above the platform. Green energy passes through every Pokémon. For a heartbeat, each trainer hears the same whisper:
“Protect what you love.”
THREE QUESTIONS
The guardian raises its head. Instead of attacking, it asks each trainer a question through a vision.
DM: Ask: “What would your Pokémon do to protect you?” Then: “What would you do to protect your Pokémon?”
THE GUARDIAN BOWS
The guardian lowers its head. The green energy fades. It touches the relic and reveals a vision of a distant mountain.
DM: Award the party a Guardian Bond. This becomes important in Chapter 5.
TRAINER POKÉMON
Choose the Pokémon each trainer sends into the battle.
